What is Heartbleed?

You may have heard in the news about a new computer vulnerability named "Heartbleed". Heartbleed is a software bug that creates a security breach in OpenSSL, (Secure Socket Layer) which is a cryptographic library that is used to secure a very large percentage of the Internet's traffic. OpenSSL is utilized by many common applications, websites, VPN's and by about 50% of the Apache Servers that power the Internet.

What is The Bank of Princeton doing?

We have been working closely with our various service providers to ensure that our systems were not affected by the Heartbleed OpenSSL. The Bank of Princeton has received confirmation that our online banking site was not affected. You can be assured that we are doing everything we can to protect your information.
 

What can you do?

As a consequence of this significant security vulnerability, you are urged to update your passwords across the various websites that you use after confirming that the website has taken proper measures and applied the software patches to repair Heartbleed. If the site has not taken proper steps to address Heartbleed, the websites may still be at risk and any new passwords used could continue to be compromised.
